A first exploration of large-scale projection mapping, transforming a historic facade into a quiet fantasy world of books, nature and light.

The work was composed for the wide symmetry of the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery. Comparing the render with the projected version became the first opportunity to see how scale, distance and the surface of a real building change an image.

Unlike later projects, Never Give Up! did not begin with music. The starting point was a collection of fantasy-like scenes: a quiet room, an endless library, glowing gardens, butterflies and shifting light. The visual world came first, then sound was used to support its atmosphere and pacing.

Created during the pandemic, the visual journey moves from stillness and reflection toward change and possibility. Books suggest learning, the world beyond the window suggests what might come next, and nature becomes a sign that life continues to grow.

The garden was built from recurring symbols: blue iris for hope, red rose for love, yellow daisy for joy and pink sakura for renewal. Butterflies carry those ideas across the facade, connecting one scene to the next.

Because this was the first attempt at projection mapping on a large building, the design was also a test of scale. The facade's long wings and central tower shaped where details could sit, how movement travelled and which images remained visible from a distance.
